Some are loud, colorful, and packed with kids racing from the waterslide back to the pool before they’ve even finished climbing the stairs. Others feel like luxury resorts where the only sound you hear is a waterfall and the occasional splash from someone floating peacefully across the water.
As a Disney Dad, I’ve learned something over the years.
The “best” pool isn’t always the biggest one.
It isn’t always the one with the tallest slide.
And it certainly isn’t always the most expensive.
The best pool is the one that fits your family.
A family with toddlers has completely different priorities than a family with teenagers. Grandparents appreciate different things than parents with preschoolers. Some families spend every waking minute inside the parks. Others build entire resort days around relaxing by the pool.
That’s exactly why I created this comparison guide.
Instead of trying to rank every resort from “best” to “worst,” I want to help you answer a much more important question:
Which Disney resort pool is right for YOUR family?
How to Read This Guide
Rather than overwhelming you with dozens of individual resort pages, I’ve gathered the most important information into one easy-to-read comparison.
You’ll find:

My recommendation for who each resort fits best
*Most Disney feature pools are typically open from approximately 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM or 11:00 PM, depending on the season. Leisure pools often remain open longer, but always verify current hours at your resort because weather, maintenance, and seasonal schedules can affect operations.

What Immediately Stands Out?
Looking over the chart, a few trends become obvious.
First, Disney’s Value Resorts are designed around fun, color, and family energy. They generally don’t include waterslides or hot tubs, but they do provide exciting themes that younger children absolutely love. They’re fantastic choices for families planning to spend most of their day inside the parks.
Move into the Moderate Resorts, and you begin seeing much larger feature pools with waterslides, themed play areas, hot tubs, and better options for spending an entire afternoon relaxing. This is where Disney starts treating the pool as part of the vacation instead of simply another hotel amenity.
The Deluxe Resorts take things another step further. Here, the pools become destinations all by themselves. Many families intentionally schedule entire resort days because the pool experience is simply too good to miss.
💙 Dad Tip
Don’t let the room price make your decision for you.
Ask yourself one simple question:
“How much time will my family actually spend at the pool?”
If the answer is “every afternoon,” a better pool may provide more value than a slightly nicer room. We’ve had vacations where the kids talked more about the pool than they did some of the attractions—and honestly, those were some of our favorite trips.
Best Pool for Toddlers
Parents of toddlers have very different priorities than parents of teenagers.
You’re not looking for the biggest waterslide.
You’re looking for:
Zero-entry pools
Gentle splash areas
Shallow water
Plenty of seating nearby
Easy stroller access
Shade
For those reasons, Art of Animation’s Big Blue Pool remains one of my favorite recommendations for families with young children. The atmosphere is cheerful, colorful, and built around younger guests who simply want to splash, play, and laugh.
The Kidani Village water playground also deserves serious attention. Uwanja Camp is one of the best interactive water play areas anywhere at Walt Disney World, and it’s one of those hidden gems many first-time visitors never hear about.
Meanwhile, Polynesian’s Lava Pool continues to shine thanks to its zero-entry design, making it much easier for little ones to safely enjoy the water while parents stay close.
Best Pools for Elementary-Age Kids
If your children are somewhere between six and twelve years old, you’re entering what I like to call the “never stop swimming” years.
This is the age when the pool isn’t simply a place to cool off—it’s the destination.
Kids in this age group usually want three things:
A fun waterslide.
Room to splash.
Something to explore.
Fortunately, Disney has several resorts that absolutely shine here.
Coronado Springs immediately jumps to mind. The Lost City of Cibola Pool combines an impressive Mayan pyramid, a long waterslide, and plenty of room for active kids. It feels adventurous without becoming overwhelming.
Caribbean Beach Resort is another excellent choice. The pirate fortress theme encourages imagination, while the splash area keeps younger siblings entertained. I’ve watched families arrive planning to swim for “just a little while” only to realize they’ve spent the entire afternoon there.
Then there’s Stormalong Bay.
Calling it a pool almost feels unfair.
It’s closer to a miniature water park.
Kids can spend hours exploring every corner before realizing they’ve never actually left the resort.
Best Pools for Teenagers
Teenagers are…different.
They’re generally too old for splash pads.
Too young to spend all afternoon reading beside the pool.
They want excitement.
Big slides.
Room to swim.
Some independence.
For teenagers, my favorites are:
🏆 Stormalong Bay
Nothing else at Walt Disney World really compares.
The massive waterslide, sandy-bottom areas, multiple pools, and sheer size make it easy for older kids to stay entertained for hours.
🏆 Coronado Springs
The long slide and expansive pool deck are perfect for older children.
Parents can relax while still keeping everyone in sight.
🏆 Polynesian Village
The Lava Pool remains one of Disney’s classic family pools.
Teenagers usually enjoy the atmosphere almost as much as the slide.
Best Pools for Disney Dads
Let’s be honest.
Sometimes Dad wants…
…five minutes.
Just five.
No decisions.
No maps.
No Lightning Lane.
No one asking…
“Dad?”
…every seventeen seconds.
When that moment arrives, these are my favorite pools.
🏆 Wilderness Lodge
This is my personal favorite.
Everything about Copper Creek Springs Pool feels relaxing.
Towering pines.
Beautiful rockwork.
Shady seating.
The sound of rushing water.
And…
Geyser Point.
If you’ve never enjoyed lunch overlooking Bay Lake after spending the morning by the pool, you’re missing one of Disney World’s best hidden experiences.
🏆 Riviera Resort
The atmosphere here is calm.
Elegant.
Never overwhelming.
You don’t feel rushed.
The pool area almost encourages you to slow down.
That’s a rare gift during a Disney vacation.
🏆 Old Key West
Old Key West rarely gets mentioned when people discuss Disney pools.
That’s unfortunate.
Because if your definition of a great afternoon includes…
shade
quiet
comfortable lounge chairs
and a slower pace…
Old Key West deserves serious consideration.
😂 Disney Dad Reality
Every Disney Dad eventually says…
“I’m just going to sit here for five minutes.”
Twenty-two seconds later…
“Dad!”
“Daaaaaaaaaad!”
“Dad…watch this!”
“Dad…can you throw me the ball?”
So much for those five minutes.
Best Waterslides
Disney has some fantastic waterslides, but a few stand above the rest.
🥇 Stormalong Bay
Still the king.
Climbing aboard the shipwreck before sliding back toward the pool is one of those Disney experiences that kids remember for years.
🥈 Coronado Springs
Fast.
Long.
Beautifully themed.
Older kids absolutely love it.
🥉 Polynesian Village
Sliding out of a volcano?
That’s just fun.
The tropical setting makes the entire experience even better.

Wilderness Lodge

Riviera Resort
Best Pool Bars for Dad
One of the things Disney does surprisingly well…
Pool bars.
No…
I’m not suggesting your vacation should revolve around frozen drinks.
But…
If you’ve spent the morning walking eight miles…
Sometimes a frozen lemonade—or something a little more tropical—is exactly what the doctor ordered.
My favorites:
🏆 Geyser Point (Wilderness Lodge)
🏆 Barefoot Pool Bar (Polynesian)
🏆 Hurricane Hanna’s (Beach Club)
🏆 Banana Cabana (Caribbean Beach)
🏆 Siesta’s (Coronado Springs)
Each has its own personality, but they all share something important:
They make it very easy to spend another hour by the pool.
Quietest Pools
Sometimes…
The feature pool isn’t what you want.
Maybe the kids are napping.
Maybe Grandma wants a peaceful swim.
Maybe everyone simply needs a break from crowds.
These resorts excel.
Old Key West
Quiet.
Relaxing.
Often overlooked.
Saratoga Springs
Multiple leisure pools spread throughout the resort.
Easy to find a peaceful afternoon.
Port Orleans Riverside
One of Disney World’s most relaxing resorts.
The leisure pools often feel like hidden neighborhood pools.
Riviera Resort
Smaller.
Calmer.
Elegant.
Perfect for slower afternoons.
⚠️ Dad Warning
Don’t automatically head to the feature pool.
Many Disney resorts have beautiful leisure pools that are dramatically quieter.
Sometimes the best swim isn’t where everyone else is.
Crowd Strategy
One thing I’ve learned over the years…
Disney pools have predictable rhythms.
The busiest time?
Approximately…
1 PM until 4 PM.
Why?
Everyone leaves the parks.
Florida becomes approximately the temperature of a pizza oven.
Swimming suddenly sounds like an outstanding idea.
If your family wants fewer crowds…
Swim early.
Or…
Swim after dinner.
Evening swimming is one of Disney World’s hidden gems.
The temperature drops.
The lighting becomes beautiful.
The atmosphere changes completely.
And you’ll often have far more space to enjoy the pool.

❤️ Dad’s Take
I’ve learned something over the years.
Kids rarely remember how expensive the vacation was.
They rarely remember how long they waited for Space Mountain.
They probably won’t remember what room number you stayed in.
But they’ll remember racing down the waterslide.
They’ll remember ice cream beside the pool.
They’ll remember making friends while swimming.
They’ll remember Dad throwing them into the deep end over and over again.
The pool isn’t a break from the vacation… For many families… It becomes one of the best parts of it.
Coming Up in Part 4
Now that we’ve compared every Disney resort pool, it’s time to answer the biggest question of all:
Which Disney World resort should YOU actually book?
In the final installment, we’ll match resorts to different types of families, budgets, ages, vacation styles, and travel goals, helping you choose the perfect Disney resort with confidence.
